The Manhattan is a popular cocktail in this house. It’s one of the classics and since it’s been around so long there are many variations. No one really knows exactly who invented it as the stories vary just like the ingredients; it’s probably been around since the 1880s.
The Classic Manhattan
- 2 oz rye whiskey (this is a personal choice – but the classic calls for rye)
- 1 oz dry vermouth (we use a Carpano)
- 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
- Maraschino cherry, for garnish
Fill a mixing beaker or glass with ice. Pour all the ingredients in the ice and stir.
Stir for about 20 sec and then strain into a cocktail glass.
I generally serve mine in a cocktail glass with a large ice cube and a luxardo cherry.
Stay tuned for some variations.
