The only thing I like more than brunch is coffee. Well, maybe wine, but coffee is up there. Since one of my favorite shops closed, I have been dying for a new coffee shop to pop up in its place. Ceremony will rank right up there with some of my other favorites.
It was 100 degrees on this day, so we didn’t sit outside, but I can’t wait to grab a coffee and work at this huge cement patio. The inside is very modern with a lot of white, but it isn’t cold at all. There are plenty of seats with communal high tops and also booths.
I walked up the coffee bar and saw the Nitro Cold Brew and new immediately what I was going to be drinking. The cold brew doesn’t even need ice – it comes straight from a keg. They take their fine fancy cold brewed coffee and infuse it with nitrogen. The coffee is perfectly smooth. There is no bitter taste and I can’t quite explain the creaminess. I added just a little milk and a tiny bit of simple. It didn’t need it.
Equally important is the food. It’s a seasonal menu; there really is something for everyone. I opted for the Poached Egg. The thick toast is some sort of multi-grain raisin bread. I loved this dish. The bacon jam added sweet and salty notes. Combining that with creamy avocado and sharp feta cheese and you have a perfect little bite. It only gets better when you add a poached egg on top.
There is an even prettier toast on the menu – we subbed the hardboiled egg for another poached. Same toast, with avocado and topped with gorgeous smoked salmon. The little crumbles are their “everything” seeds.
Try the coffee at Babies on Fire on Morton St.
