Miss Shirley’s is on top of everyone popular list as a great brunch spot. They now have three locations; I went to the North Baltimore location in Roland Park. They have something for everyone – about 37 types of pancakes and french toast to meet the needs of every savory and sweet tooth out there. The menu is huge; like three pages huge. I have tendency to try new spots, rather than continue to hit the same old spots, so I don’t come here often enough. Nevertheless, there is something to be said for their monkey bread.
I was lucky enough to be invited to a Baltimore Area Hospitality Association event where these guys were catering a sit down breakfast.
I must say that Miss Shirley’s hits it out of the park when it comes to service. Super polite, incredibly attentive and always there with a carafe of coffee when I need it. And at 8:30, I need coffee.
I tend to have low expectations when this happens thinking that its asking a ton on chef to operate as normal and have all of our shrimp, grits and salmon come out perfectly cooked at the same time. He did it, though. We did have a restricted menu. But plenty of great choices for me.
I went with a classic favorite A ginormous slice of blackened salmon – slathered in Cajun spice – sitting on creamy stone ground grits, crispy fried green tomatoes. I loved the addition of the diced bacon – it’s bacon. My favorite part was the corn emulsion. The corn was roasted adding a sweet hint to counter the spicy spice. Yum!!
I did have a little meal envy of the french toast on the other side of the table. But I was able to squash my sweet tooth with some of their ridiculous biscuits – super buttery and rich which they let me top with their house berry jam.
