Blaze Pizza is a new spot downtown; a quick and easy, MTO pizza joint.
It’s actually kind of fun. The menu is posted up on the wall like many fast casual spots. The person taking your initial order, writes your name on a paper and the basic order. Then you slide down the counter and there are 20 other folks ready to top your pizza. You can change your mind, you can add a few things, and modify it on the spot.
Last stop, you get to the cash register, and your pizza goes in the oven. Your pizza is just about done by the time you pay and grab a drink from the counter. This is where the fancy name part comes in, they call you by name and that “paper” moves right along with you on the plate or the box.
I like this pizza. It’s thin, thin crust, which is my style. The crust gets crispy instead of chewy. You can get a thicker crust for a slight upcharge, if you tell them in the beginning. I started with one of their signature pizzas – The White Top, since I also don’t love red sauce on pizza. This one is a white cream sauce topped with shredded mozzarella, applewood bacon, chopped garlic, oregano, arugula. I added pepperoni and spinach, figuring the spinach makes up for the fatty saltiness. This is your basic fast causal pizza. Don’t expect fine dining quality and unique or creative ideas. That part is up to you.
It was a great snack; I wasn’t stuff, but I definitely left satisfied – even though I had some help finishing my pie. If I have a little more time and a few more dollars, I would pick Isabella’s any day. Although, I will probably stop back here for quick pizza fill.
