These guys claim to have “quite possibly the best hot dog you’ll ever have”. Have you had a chance to stop here? The Haute Dog Carte does have some limited hours – only 11am-230pm and only on Wednesdays-Sundays. So, maybe you haven’t randomly been on Falls road during the exact time they are open. I usually am not.
One day, though, I was lucky enough to be in the area, and they were open. They do have a good thing going. The guys here are super friendly, and manage to create something out of a small little roadside stand. My favorite is the buns, huge chunks of baguettes that the poke a hole in with a bread warmer.
We couldn’t decide so we split two. The HD Signature is your classic 1/4 pound black angus beef dog. It’s finished with bacon & onion marmalade, tomato & onion jam and an authentic dijon mustard. The hot dog was good, but all I tasted was sweet, that tomato kinda sweet. I didn’t get much bacon flavor or much mustard. I might just ask for a plain dog next time and top it with my favorite topping – spicy brown mustard.
The other dog we tried was the Smoked Country Sausage. It is a beef and pork dog that is lightly smoked and then tossed on the grill. They serve this one with a honey and pommery (a french champagne) dijon mustard. I liked this one better; more depth of flavor. It also hit a few more spice notes on the tongue.
